Stacking Drawer System

Simon Fussel

The Stacking Drawer, produced in England by Interstore in the early 1970s, is a distinctive and now rare example of modular British design from the Space Age era. Designed by Simon Fussell, this drawer chest consists of individual ABS plastic units that can be freely stacked, rotated, and reconfigured to suit a variety of storage needs. Each cube-like module fits seamlessly into the next, forming a sculptural yet functional whole. While a similar model was later produced by Kartell in Italy in slightly different dimensions and more widely distributed, the original Interstore edition is far less common. With its clean, handle-free aesthetic and innovative modular construction, the Simon Fussell drawer system captures the optimistic spirit and design ingenuity of 1970s British modernism.
