Entrevue kinetic candle sculpture
Daniel Grobet
Daniel Grobet’s poetic "Entrevue" sculpture is activated by the simple energy of a burning candle. As the wax melts and the candle gradually loses weight, the object shifts, rotates and transforms, creating a delicate interplay of balance, movement, light and shadow. Between 1975 and 1996, Grobet developed his Attrape-feux - a limited series of kinetic works in which the candle functions not simply as a source of light, but as the "motor" of the sculpture itself. Each piece unfolds as a small performance in constant transformation. Grobet’s interest in movement and equilibrium was shaped by an encounter with Alexander Calder’s mobiles, which became a formative influence on his sculptural practice. In the Attrape-feux, these ideas are translated into intimate objects animated by gravity, heat and changing weight
