Lila Hunter Chair

A rare version of Philippe Starck’s Lilla Hunter chair, combining a slender grey-lacquered tubular-steel frame with a seat in tensioned blue-green PVC cord and a matching fiberglass backrest. While fiberglass had already entered the vocabulary of modern furniture through designs such as the Eames molded chairs of the 1950s, Starck uses the material here in a distinctly different way: as a separate sculptural back element, set against the lightness of the steel frame and the flexible cord seat. This combination of industrial materials gives the chair a graphic, almost architectural presence and reflects Starck’s experimental approach to furniture design in the 1980s. The fiberglass-back configuration is among the less common versions of the Lilla Hunter, making this example particularly distinctive. Preserved in original condition.
