Braun HL1 Desk Fan

Reinhold Weiss

The HL1, also known as the “Multiwind,” is an iconic piece of mid-century modern design created in 1961 by Reinhold Weiss, a graduate of the Ulm School of Design who worked closely with Dieter Rams. Reflecting the Bauhaus-inspired principle that form follows function, the HL1 combines minimalist aesthetics with technical ingenuity —so discreet an quite it was famously used to cool John F. Kennedy’s podium during a speech in 1963. Now a prized collector's item, the HL1 is part of MoMA’s permanent design collection and has been featured in exhibitions by the German Design Council, underscoring its lasting significance in the history of industrial design.
